GASTRIC BALLOON

More and more popular is non-invasive therapy which is based on putting a balloon in a stomach, which deters form uncontrolled hunger attacks. This method was set up in a laboratory of American corporation Inamed Health, was granted required attests and has contributed itself to an enormous loss of excessive kilograms. It lets to loose 20% of initial body mass on average.

Who should use the balloon?
This method is set up for persons:
with obesity (BMI 27-30);
with straight obesity (up to BMI 40), then with the help of psychologist;
with pathological obesity where it is one of a few therapies.
- Recommended for people with BMI over 40 as a start of a series of therapies.

Balloon therapy is recommended especially to those, whose obesity makes it impossible to carry on cardiological or orthopaedic surgeries. It is also a great treatment for patients with diabetes or rupture.

Gastric balloon
A material balloon is inserted into soft stomach with endoscopic method and it is not digested by gastric juices, and then it is fulfilled with physiological solution. Balloon is in the shape of a ball with a diameter form 400 up to 700 cm3 and moves freely in the stomach giving the feeling of satiety. If a patient forgets and eats too much, he will feel sick. This intense impulse helps to wean from overeating.
After 6 months cellulose is removed by doctor in the same way it was ‘installed’.


How to behave after the operation
First 2-3 days are really difficult. Patient can feel sick, experience nausea, diarrhoea, wind colic and stomach contractions. The moment the body gets used to the balloon, all these symptoms disappear.
Patients obtain some advices they have to comply with. Experts advise to go on 1200 kcal diet and do specially prepared exercises. During the first days it’s advisable to avoid solid food and take in liquids only.
Menu for the first days:
fruit juices, still mineral water
milk, yoghurts, cottage cheese
liquid soups, food supplements based on yoghurts
jellies


!!! It is absolutely vital to avoid coffee, fizzy drinks, ice-cream and alcohol.

Especially during the first days of the therapy it is advisable for a patient to avoid burdening of the body. After about a week you can bring into your diet meals like pap for children, fruit mashes or porridge. On average, patient can eat stable products after 2 weeks after the operation. However it must be done closely to doctor’s recommendations.

Living with a balloon
1-3 months – this is a time when the organism learns how to eat in a new way. After this time vomiting influence of the balloon stops and a patient has to rely on his common sense.
After 3 months we plan a visit with a specialist to control progresses or menu correction.
After 6 months we invite a patient for removing of the balloon. Before the operation a patient is not allowed to eat for 24 hours and drink for 12 hours.

After removing a balloon a patient needs to have a long rest and bring food into menu gradually. Each of the above steps will be supervised by a specialist, who shall inform you about everything.
